The Maid of the Loch

The story of The Maid of the Loch, Loch Lomond’s last paddle steamer, is a fascinating one. A story of highs and lows, with many twists and turns along the way.

Our involvement with the Loch Lomond Steamship Company began when we were commissioned to produce a short film to demonstrate the support for their funding bid, to Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), to get the Maid back into operation and sailing once again on Loch Lomond.

The Maid of the Loch - Funding Video

Here are two of those funding videos. The first was successfully used in a successful application to Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for significant funds to get the Maid sailing again. The second is a follow up Crowdfunding campaign, filmed in 2017, with the specific aim of raising funds towards a new boiler for the maid. We wish the Maid of the Loch every success with their aims to get the magnificent paddle steamer sailing again on Loch Lomond.

Voyage of the Maid DVD - The Story Of The Maid Of The Loch

The Maid of the Loch is located at Loch Lomond Shores in Balloch, a tourist attraction that is being restored by a large team of volunteers. The video above played its part in winning support from HLF. The project needs funding of £5.5million. HLF have pledged £3.8million, if the Loch Lomond Steamship Company is able to raise the additional £1.7million required.

Whilst producing that video to support the HLF bid we accessed some amazing classic cine film of the Maid of the Loch sailing on Loch Lomond during its time in operation from the 1950’s to the 1980’s. That rich footage included royal visits along with footage day-to-day sailings with many happy passengers.

On hearing the story of the Maid and seeing the classic footage we came up with the idea of a DVD to tell the story of the Maid of the Loch. The result was Voyage of the Maid a full-length documentary that has sold extremely well. In fact we have had sales from all over the world, and of course on board the Maid.

The DVD was a collaboration of Paul Saunders Marketing, McMaster Media and the Loch Lomond Steamship Co. John Beveridge from the charity who had played a vital role in the restoration of the Maid presented the documentary.

Below you can watch a trailer for the DVD.
