Scottish Highlands

Let's start with a classic. Perhaps the most photographed building in the Scottish Highlands (If I am wrong someone will no doubt correct me!). It's Eilean Donan Castle, not far from the Skye Road Bridge. It's been well used in films and TV programmes, including James Bond and Highlander.

Careers Videos for Lantra Scotland

The photograph above was taken on my latest visit, a very enjoyable two day working trip to film two examples of rural based jobs in the Scottish Highlands for Lantra Scotland. You can see the final results below. The first is about Aquaculture and was filmed at Scottish Salmon's site in Kishorn and the second is about career in Game Keeping and was filmed on Arverikie Estate, close to the Cairngorms.

The Ardnamurchan Peninsula

Back to travels around The Scottish Highlands that have not been for work and here is a real favourite. It's the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, which at its end is the most westerly point of Mainland Britain. There's not a lot on the peninsula, apart from stunning views and white sandy beaches. Still that's enough isn't it??!!

The bottom photograph shows our inflatable kayak, the perfect way to explore the rugged and beautiful coastline in Ardnamurchan.

Onto the Isle of Skye, an island with its own distinct look and qualities.

Photographs from Skye, I took the bottom one on a boat in Portree Harbour. Here are some other favourite places in the Scottish Highlands.

Plockton and it's wonderful harbour, with palm trees growing along the waters edge. Take Calum's Seal Boat Trip, with the offer of money back if you don't see any.

Getting to Staffa is an adventure in itself. You go via Oban and Mull, it is well worth the trip to see Finagal's Cave and the islands Puffin Colony.

The monument to the Jacobite rising in 1745 at Glenfinnan.

I need to spend more time in the Cairngorms National Park, the bottom photograph was taken at the amazing Cairngorm Reindeer Centre.

And Finally....

Watch out for rush hour in the Scottish Highlands. Traffic chaos might look a bit like this!!
