The photographs on this page were taken in Menemsha a beautiful ocean side village on the island of Martha's Vineyard in New England, America.
Menemsha's claim to fame is that it is one of the locations used during the filming of 1970's cult movie Jaws. It is also a place where people go to watch the sunset each night. You will find a link below to one of our travel blogs to see some examples.
Whilst walking to the beach to watch the sun set I saw this sign, naming the businesses on the island that support the fish market and therefore the local fisherman, which I thought was a really good idea.
It is so important that local businesses are supported, sometimes of course there are cheaper options. This maybe the case here, however those restaurant have an excellent story of local food provenance to tell their customers, whilst of course contributing to the success of the local economy.
Show Your Support To Local Businesses
Back home I am pleased that many of the small and medium sized businesses that we work with deliberately seek out local suppliers. They are often rewarded with extra special service and support.
The Oak Tree Inn has worked with Skinners of Kippen to develop a special burger for their popular restaurant. This is part of an excellent story of food provenance for that business. That and other examples of their strong Scottish provenance credentials are illustrated in a poster that we created for them.
Thank-You For Your Support
Over the years we have received good support from local people who have deliberately sought us out, or have been keen to work with us because we are local to them We are very grateful to them, although of course you only expect to maintain that relationship if you can provide high standards at reasonable prices.
If you're in business could you use more local suppliers than you currently are? Also can you celebrate and encourage local people to use your businesses or services more - Like the fish market on Martha's Vineyard?
One of our clients Fraser C Robb does an excellent job of encouraging people to Hire or Buy locally (see their video below). They are also great practitioners too of supporting local businesses.
